State Flags to Fly At Half Staff in Honor of SFC MATTHEW PIONK

EXECUTIVE ORDER # 236
 
Relating to a Proclamation that the
Flag of the United States
and the Flag of the State of Wisconsin
be Flown at Half-Staff
as a Mark of Respect for
Sergeant First Class Matthew Pionk
 of the United States Army
Who Lost His Life
During Operation Iraqi Freedom
 
WHEREAS, on January 9, 2008, Sergeant First Class Matthew Pionk, a member of the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, United States Army, died as a result of injuries sustained during enemy action in Iraq; and
 
WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Matthew Pionk provided faithful and honorable service to the people of the State of Wisconsin and the people of the United States; and
 
WHEREAS, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Sergeant First Class Matthew Pionk; and
 
WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Matthew Pionk will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 19, 2008;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM DOYLE, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by Federal and State law, do hereby order that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the State of Wisconsin equipped with such flags beginning at sunrise on January 19, 2008, and ending at sunset on that date.

Gubernatorial Executive Orders pertaining to special flag display are binding only on state office buildings and facilities. Individuals and other organizations are invited to join the state in this display of respect at their own volition. VFW Posts are encouraged to participate in honoring our war dead in like manner.
