Flags To Fly At Half-Staff for Sgt Steven Christofferson

EXECUTIVE ORDER # 249

Relating to a Proclamation that the Flag of the United States and the Flag of the State of Wisconsin be Flown at Half-Staff as a Mark of Respect for Sergeant Steven Christofferson of the United States Army Who Lost His Life During Operation Iraqi Freedom


WHEREAS, on April 21, 2008, Sergeant Steven Christofferson, a member of  1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, United States Army, died while serving his country in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Steven Christofferson provided faithful and honorable service to the people of the State of Wisconsin and the people of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Sergeant Steven Christofferson; and

          WHEREAS, Sergeant Steven Christofferson will be laid to rest on Friday, May 2, 2008;

          NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM DOYLE, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by Federal and State law, do hereby order that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the State of Wisconsin equipped with such flags beginning at sunrise on May 2, 2008, and ending at sunset on that date.

 

Gubernatorial Executive Orders pertaining to special flag display are binding only on state office buildings and facilities. Individuals and other organizations are invited to join the state in this display of respect at their own volition. VFW Posts are encouraged to participate in honoring our war dead in like manner.
