"BLANKET HONOR" New Organization Has Been Formed

Posted at 11:01 AM on Friday, April 11, 2008 by Mike Borg, District QM in District Local Post News

Blanket of Honor

This newly formed organization started in October 2007 called Blankets of Honor, whose goals and committment is to Honor the fallen soldiers and hero's in our hometown communities and across the nation by presenting them with a handmade embroidered blanket with bits and pieces of their lives weaved into the blanket.

All the military blankets are done as a gift to the service member/veteran or the family of a fallen service member.

(Cindy Riess, Muzz Millard and Charles Bray)

Cindy Riess along with Charles Bray are the founders and together they want to make sure these families know that their communities care about all they've given. You see at the top of every blanket states: "FREEDOM is their Gift to US!"

This past December 2007 Post 3088 made a blanket honoring Muzz Millard for his years of service as a veteran and also years of service as a retired police officer. Muzz is the oldest active veteran in Door County (Sturgeon Bay)VFW Post and very deserving of this honor. He had no idea he was receiving the blanket.

This information was supplied by Mary Paitrick, Commander, Post 3088 Sturgeon Bay
