SILVER STAR FAMILIES OF AMERICA HONORS WOUNDED VETERANS
Posted at 07:08 PM on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 by District 1
Silver Star Families of America (SSFOA) is an all volunteer 501 (c) (3) tax exempt nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of establishing a service flag and banner to honor our wounded military. SSOFA recognizes, assists and serves as advocates for wounded service members and veterans as well as honor them with its Silver Star Banner. One of the organizations goals is to see that America never forgets the service and sacrifices of U.S. service members and veterans. Every time someone see the Silver Star Flag or Banner it serves to remind them of the sacrifices mate by so many for this great Nation. SSFOA recognizes ALL wars, past and present.
Steven J. Newton, founder, wanted a place where wounded service members and families could go for help and information, laugh, talk or cry with others going through the same experiences they are. SSFOA is that place and offers a website for information, resources and help, including an online group of wonderful parents, spouses, veterans and friends to help you through those difficult and often lonely and unknowing moments.
One of their programs is an online support program for service members and families who are having a hard time during and after deployment. IM or email to contact SSFOA volunteers who man this important endeavor by following the Hear4You link on the website’s home page. An extensive PTSD Resource Center has been added which includes care thru the Give An Hour organization. Additionally, SSFOA joined with Soldiers’ Angels and are providing hand-held games to wounded service members as therapeutic aids. Games and food cards are available thru the website request form.
The Silver Star Flag is recognized nationwide and flies at many VA Hospitals, in Germany, at Walter Reed and Bethesda. Forty-four states have signed up in support of May 1st as Silver Star Day making it a National day of observance to honor our wounded.
Several states have given signature endorsement making the Silver Star Flag and Banner the official symbol of the wounded. Silver Star Families relies solely on tax deductible donations. Please make a donation and see your tax advisor for available deductions.
If you were wounded while serving our country and would like to receive a Silver Star Banner and Certificate simply submit the online form and follow the directions provided. Veteran Service Organizations who wish to honor their members are welcome to contact SSFOA for multiple banners.
