My family and I want to thank everyone for your prayers and kind words at the time of our mothers passing. It was greatly appreciated.
The Irene Erickson Family
I hope all district commanders and chairpersons will attend the vod/patriots pen luncheon at Mid-Winter. Let's show these young people we are behind them all the way to the National Competition.

We have not gotten the backing of the posts that we expected, and only have just over a month to get out and sell our raffle tickets. We desperately need this raffle to run the Department and all of our programs. All posts have been sent $100 worth of raffle tickets; please put your post number on the tickets send the $100 and stubs back as soon as possible. The Department thanks you for your help.
Our reporting is coming in, but we still have some posts that have not sent in any reports. We all know your posts have done the work, so please send in your reports.
We are behind in membership currently there are only 24 posts at 100% or better. Get teams of two members to go out and pick up the dues from your unpaid members. We need NEW MEMBERS more then ever, now as the commanding officer at Camp McCoy will not let us in the PX to recruit new members. It is up to all of us to recruit. Help us to achieve 100% in membership this year.
C of A and King Day: A Busy Weekend with Great Results!

It was my special honor to present a plaque to Ken Munro, commemorating his more than 16 years of service as King Day Chairman. Ken has stepped down due to the demands of his medical treatments, but intends to continue to be the valuable contributing member he has been over these many years. We wish him well and look forward to his continuing service to the VFW Department of Wisconsin and all Veterans! |
July 24-25 was the Council of Administration meetings. As usual the budget took us quite some time to get in place, but finally was approved by the council for the coming year. Earl Banks and his committee did an outstanding job keeping it running smoothly.
Reporting was given by all district commanders. They all gave good ideas as to what they want each of the posts in their districts to accomplish this year.
The OTI was also held this weekend, with great success.
The weather was excellent for King Day. The veterans at the home enjoyed their picinic, especially the brats. We honored Ken Munro for his many years as King as Chairman.

"Flying Squadron" National Training in Chicago was very helpful!

The Flying Squadron Meeting in Chicago was a big success. Our State Officers and District Commanders learned what the incoming National Commander-in-Chief expects from our Posts, Districts and Department.
Our State programs follow right along with the National programs.
We learned about the duties and responsibilities of the District Commanders,
National Military Services, the VFW All-American program and our National membership goals.
The Department of Wisconsin had a GREAT showing at the fly-in, with everyone who was ordered in showing up.

I want to thank you for participation, it shows what a dedicated group of people we have working for the VFW in the State of Wisconsin. Coming up this weekend in Wisconsin Rapids, we'll be kicking off our Department's new Program Year.
I hope to see many of you there!
Gary

Make the State Raffle Work For You!

Hi Comrades...
A suggestion on how to sell your raffle tickets:
Take a card table and two folding chairs to your local supermarket. Ask if you can set-up by the shopping carts, or somewhere close. Set up your table with the poster for the joint raffle. Then all you need to do is be like the greeter at Wal-Mart, and say "Hello", "Good Morning", or "Good Afternoon".
The public will ask you what you are selling. Explain that you are selling VFW Raffle Tickets. Tell them the Grand Prize is $20,000, and by purchasing a ticket or tickets they will be helping support your local Post, since half of the proceeds go to the local Post, the other half goes to the State VFW. None of it goes to National.
The public likes the idea of half of the money staying with the local VFW.
IT WORKS!
I collected over $600.00 this past weekend: 8 hours on Saturday and just 3 hours on Sunday. A good time to set-up on Sunday is when church services are getting out. A lot of people stop in the store after church.
See how successful you can be!!!!
