The following software programs are available for free either as Open Source Software or are made available for free by the various companies. This is not an all-encompassing list but will provide you with many of the basic tools you may need to conduct Post business and/or may be useful for operating your VFW WebCOM Network Weblogs without breaking the bank.| Software | Purpose |
| FireFox | Free web browser alternative to Internet Explorer. VFW WebCOM recommends Firefox for browsing the Network. |
| Open Office | Free, Open Source alternative to Microsoft Office. All MS Office documents are compatible with Open Office. It is a large download but will save your Post hundreds of dollars. |
| TurboCash or GNUCash |
Free small business accounting software. Quickbooks alternatives. |
| Scribus | Need to do a post newsletter or flyers? Download this free desktop publisher. |
| IrfanView | Great program for quickly cropping, resizing or converting images or photos. |
| Paint.net | Can't afford Adobe Photoshop? This free image creator/editor has many of Photoshop's features without the cost. |
| Photoscape or Picasa |
Free photo editors with various features for cropping, resizing, and touching up red-eyes, poor lighting or color enhancements. |
| Picnik.com | Online photo editor for those who would rather not download a photo editing program. |
