Salisbury VA Medical Center to Open
Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Hickory
SALISBURY – In keeping with national efforts by the Department of Veterans Affairs to enhance veterans’ access to healthcare facilities, the Salisbury VA Medical Center is pleased to announce the opening for the Hickory Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) by the end of May, 2008.
The new clinic will be located at 1170 Fairgrove Church Road, Hickory and will occupy approximately 10,000 net usable square feet of leased space. A celebratory ribbon-cutting will be conducted at the clinic site, Thursday, May 29, at 10am. Representative Patrick McHenry will provide remarks and the keynote presentation will be made by Mr. Daniel F. Hoffmann, Director, VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network.
This new VA site of care will provide outpatient primary care, mental health, and optometry services. The service area for this clinic includes Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln and Wilkes counties.
Veterans who have been screened and may benefit from care closer to where they reside will be sent a letter from VA with advice regarding enrollment. Veterans may call (704) 638-9000, ext. 4974 for more information.
The outpatient clinic will be staffed by VA health care teams managed by the Salisbury VA Medical Center. The facility will be open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Veterans in need of emergency care should use 911 services and seek immediate help at the nearest Emergency Room.
Network Director Hoffmann noted, “We are excited about the opportunity to improve access to outpatient care for veterans in this area of western North Carolina.” Salisbury VA Medical Center Director, Carolyn L. Adams, added, “the Hickory facility will allow us to expand our clinical services to those veterans who otherwise might have to travel to Salisbury or Asheville for their primary care. We look forward to providing excellent service at this clinic since our veterans deserve nothing less in thanks for their service to our Nation.”
Questions about the Clinic may be referred to Carol Waters, Public Affairs Officer at 704-638-3343. VISN 6 inquiries may be directed to Dr. Dave Raney at 919-956-5541.
