Post Holds 24th Annual Senior Citizen Dinner

On Sunday, November 22nd, 2009, VFW Post 670 and their Ladies Auxiliary held their 24th Annual Senior Citizen Dinner to honor the community seniors for their years of service to this community.

Over 175 seniors were feted to a "Sit Down" dinner of Turkey, Ham, and all the trimmings as well as beverage and deserts, served by post members, Rolling Thunder NC Chapter #1, and family youth members. Before and after the dinner, entertainment was provided Ms. Jan Pettey singing many of the older favorites.

Prior  to dinner, the colors were posted by an honor guard from the 403th Transportation Company from Fort Bragg and the Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.

All the seniors received gifts prior to leaving and the oldest man (93 years) and the oldest woman (also 93) were given additional gifts. All were given a fruit bag as they left.

All are looking forward to our Silver (25th) annual dinner next year.

Post Provides Americanism Training for 5th Graders

VFW Post 670 and it's Ladies Auxiliary provided Americanism Training for over 75 5th grade students and teachers at the Stedman Elementary School in Steadman, North Carolina on Tuesday, 10 November 2009.

Post Commander John Shelander, and members Harvey Stewart Sr and Dewey Stevenson went to Stedman with Ladies Auxiliary President Linda Shelander and members Caroline Wescott, Barbara Culbreth, and Sharon Barnhill and provided instructions and training in flag etiquette, folding, and general Americanism subjects.

Post Holds Annual Oktoberfest

VFW Post 670 held their annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Music was provided by "The Bavarian Brass Band" of Fayetteville, NC. The ladies auxiliary provides a delicious Schnitzel dinner prior to the dancing. VFW Post 670 Holds Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

VFW Post 670, Fayetteville, North Carolina held their annual Memorial Day ceremony in front of the post home on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 5 o’clock PM.

Post Commander Clyde Vaughn welcomed all who attended and spoke of the meaning of Memorial Day. Mrs. Wanda McCall sang the National Anthem.

Post Officers and the Ladies Auxiliary President paid tribute to all who paid their last full measure for our country and to the post members who had died during the past year.

Black ribbons were placed on crosses by post and family members as the departed’s names were read. Comrade Ed Gerbig, the oldest member present, is a Korean War veteran and Mrs Fran Martin placed a ribbon on a cross in memory of her husband, AG, who recently passed away.

After the ceremony, the Ladies Auxiliary served dinner to all who attended.

VFW Post 670 and the Fort Bragg USO Provides "Breakfast with Bunny"

On Saturday, April 4, 2009, VFW Post 670 teamed along with the Fort Bragg USO and Valley Auto World, Inc. of Fayetteville, NC to host "Breakfast With Bunny". The program was a free pancake breakfast and pictures with the Easter Bunny. Space was limited to the first 100 military children and their families who signed up.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the post made the breakfast and Ms. Hoku Hobbs. USO Center Director, and Ms. Maria McGuire, a volunteer who is a Freshman from Terry Sanford High School handled the setup.

Post Honors Students, Teacher, and Fireman

VFW Post 670 honored local students, teacher of the year, and the fireman of the year, and their families with a dinner and awards on Sunday, March 22, 2009.

Assisting Post Commander, Clyde Vaughn, with the awards presentations was Ladies Auxiliary President, Linda Shelander, and the Voice of Democracy/Patriot's Pen Chairman, John Shelander.  

The students who placed in the post's VOD and PP competition for 2008-2009 as well as the Teach of the Year, Michele Cole from the Gray's Creek Middle School, and the Fireman of the Year, Steven Stewart., received awards.

Steven is also the 2008-2009 Department of North Carolina Gold Medal Award winner as Firefighter of the Year.
