I'm paying for our breakfast this morning and an elderly man walks up to us. He asks "are you the VFW Service Officer?" I say, yes I am. I have large round magnets on my car indicating Membership/Service Officer Post 5327. (Since I am always cold, I had on my VFW coat too). He says "Thank you very much." I was confused at first until he told me he was a veteran. He has been working with Bud Lane and had previously talked to Sonny Sparks about mesothelioma from the Navy. He sang their praises almost as much as I do :) He had tried for years to get help, but other service organizations told him to forget it. The VFW took him in and he is now 100%! His prognosis isn't good, so I also talked to his wife about what to do afterwards, gave them my card and told them to contact me if they had any questions or problems. Funny part, though, is the man knew Scotty (my husband) from years ago. We were on our way home and my phone rang. It was him wanting to talk to Scotty and to stay in touch. Small world isn't it.

And some people have the nerve to say that we aren't trying hard enough.

Have a great day!!!! Mine was made better by knowing that a veteran had been helped.
