Report from CDR Wonnell about Ft Wood Tornado Damage
Posted at 07:13 AM on Monday, January 3, 2011 by post8100
Fort Leonard Wood Army base sustained more tornado damage than I had seen reported on TV. Over 50 homes were totally destroyed (closer to 60), another 60 were damaged to the point they can not be lived in plus the power is out to many more. Every military family living in those homes is now out of a home. The Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations are providing temporary assistance. Every member of the totaled families is now in need of food, clothing and shelter. Our VFW is doing a great job. Post 3168 has offered evening meals for the next few days.Any financial donation can help. All monetary donations should be sent to:
Army Community Service,
486 Replacement Ave,
Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473.
486 Replacement Ave,
Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473.
Any in-kind donations should be sent to the USO building on base. They are in need of non-perishable foods at this time. I am asking every VFW member, Post, District, Department and National to dig deep and send financial donations so the families can purchase the food, clothing and shelter they need. These are the men and women who are serving their country for us. Please help all you can.
He's not heavy, he's my brother. Help a veteran.

Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay
Posted at 11:36 PM on Monday, July 26, 2010 by post8100
Those eligible must submit a claim by Oct. 21, 2010.The 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act established Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP), providing $500 for each month/partial month served in stop loss status. Service members, veterans, and beneficiaries of servicemembers whose service was involuntarily extended under Stop Loss between Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2009 are eligible for RSLSP.
To receive this benefit, those who served under stop loss must submit a claim for the special pay. Throughout the year, the services have been reaching out to servicemembers, veterans and their families through direct mail, veteran service organizations, and the media. But there is still money left to be claimed, and the deadline is approaching. The average benefit is $3,700.

USS MIssouri (SSN-780) Commissioning
Posted at 07:47 AM on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 by post8100
USS Missouri Commissioning Celebration -
Join Kansas City Power & Light District and Boulevard Brewing Company on July 31st to watch the historic commissioning of the USS Missouri (SSN-780) submarine. Festivities will kick off in the KC Live! Block at 9:30 am with a musical salute to our Troops and the state of Missouri followed by the live broadcast streamed from Groton, Conn., where the commissioning is happening. Continue to celebrate the once-in-a-lifetime event after the broadcast with live music.
Comrades,
When the TV cameras go on I think they should see a Power and Light District full of VFW hats. This submarine will replace the Battleship Missouri and deserves our full support. I hope to see you all there.
