Ava VFW Post 5993 Members Attend The Veterans Day Appreciation Lunch

The Ava Victory Academy provided lunch for the Veterans in the Ava Community. While the Veterans ate lunch the classes from the school preformed poems and songs for them. Everyone had a great time and the Veterans appreciated all the hard work of the students and staff.

Veterans were honored at the Ava Victory Academy on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

Make A Difference Day October 24th

Ava VFW Post 5993 observed Make A Difference Day early this year. Commander Jerry Garrison and Virginia Linder presented over $250 worth of over-the-counter medications to Heart of the Hills Nursing Home Administrator Tanya Cutbirth. These over the counter drugs will be distributed to the patients in the nursing home when needed.

Ava Post 5993 Clean Up Day

The Ava VFW Post Members held a Post Clean Up Day. The members that volunteered to help with the clean up, cut brush and pressure washed the building. Volunteers include, Commander Jerry Garrison, Sr. Vice Richard Stitt, Joe Mosklay and Irv Reynolds.

Ava VFW Post 5993 Pancake Breakfast

The Ava VFW Post 5993 held the annual Sausage and Pancake Breakfast on October 17th, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Post and Ladies Auxiliary would like to say Thank You to everyone who came out and supported the event.

Ava VFW Post Partifcipated in 5k Run for the Hills To Support the Heart of the Hills Food Harvest

Members of the Ava VFW Post 5993 participated in the Run for the Hills 5K (3.1 miles) Fun Run/Walk on October 10th to help support the Healthy Harvest Community Garden and the Heart of the Hills Food Harvest.
Each participant that registered donated 3 non-perishable canned food items. The Post also took donations and was able to meet their goal of filling the bed of a pick-up truck to help the Heart of the Hills Food Harvest.

Ava VFW Post Open House/Membership Drive

The Ava VFW Post 5993 held an Open House/Membership Drive on September 29th. The Post celebrated the VFW's 110th and the Ladies Auxiliary's 95th Anniversaries. Refreshements were served along with cake. Door prizes were given to away.
