Mtn Grove VFW and the Tri-County Fair

Mtn Grove VFW Post 3770 built and installed a flagpole at the Tri-County Fairgrounds. It was dedicated on July 4, 1991. Every year since then the Mtn Grove VFW has performed a "Color Ceremony" to mark the opening day of the Tri-County Fair. 2008 saw the VFW performing this ceremony on June 27. Below are some photos of this event.
I could not get photos taken during the event but immediately following and before the assembled were dismissed Comrade Darrell Kochis had a few things to say about Comrade J. T. Conkin who was the main force behind the energy to build not only this flagpole but many others in the community. We lost Comrade Conkin to a tractor accident last year and the post decided to install a plaque honoring him on this particular flagpole and dedicate it on this date.
Mtn Grove School, 4th and 5th graders arrived just as we thought we were getting done. Had we known they were coming we would have waited for them to arrive. Comrade Kochis again explained about the flagpole and Comrade Conkin's involvement with it to the students.

Comrade Kochis is shown finishing up the installation of the plaque. |
| Comrade Conkin's daughter, Diane and wife, June attended the event. We were glad to see them. |
