Mtn Grove VFW Newsletter
Posted at 07:17 PM on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 by IJK
Today I mailed the latest issue of the INFORMANT, the newsletter of the Mtn Grove VFW. If you would like an e-copy contact me and I will send one to you.I approached the postmaster at the Norwood Post Office to get stamps and asked what he had that I might like and he said "Sailors". I told him that would be perfect.
Photo of the stamps are below.

I had only heard of Doris Miller so I did a Bing search and found these links if you are interested in why these four sailors were chosen check out the links I have provided.

Mtn Grove VFW Post 3770 Commander Lyman "Pete" Proctor is shown presenting a donation check to Mt Vernon Veteran Home resident Joe Sainz . Mtn Vernon Veteran Home Volunteer Services coordinator Deann Wilson assists. CDR Proctor was in Mt Vernon for an eye exam at the VA Clinic and thought he would kill two birds with one stone.
Mt Vernon Veteran Home is just one of the recipients of the Mtn Grove VFW donation program. CDR Proctor reported that MS Wilson stated that the donation would be applied to veteran residents activities.
CDR Proctor said "It is a real nice facility and I enjoyed the visit and the hospitality."

February 25 Charity Bingo at Mtn Grove VFW
Posted at 03:26 PM on Friday, February 26, 2010 by IJK in VFW Post 3770 Bingo Events
WE had a fun loving crowd last night with several new players and some we had not seen in quite some time. The volunteers of the Mtn Grove VFW Charity Bingo crew wish to thank all the players that come and bring us so much fun. The carrying-on between the volunteers and the players makes it seem like a family reunion every week.
This wonderful lady is our most loyal player and has been attending our bingo longer than any other. We were sure glad to see her last night and look forward to seeing her many more times in the future.

One (Ed) of our volunteers fell down a flight of stairs at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas and broke his big toe in two places. Now he is wearing this cast while he heals but he came and helped at bingo with a big grin on his face despite the pain.

The lucky lady above "Blacked Out" on 53 numbers and won the biggest prize of the evening.

But even fun filled evenings have to come to an end and here is part of the volunteers cleaning up while the other volunteers are busy with other chores. All of our volunteers stay behind the crowd and help with the clean-up. It usually does not take over 15 or 20 minutes.
The volunteers will always welcome more help and all are invited to come and play bingo with us on Thursday evenings.
WE now have a FaceBook page for our Mtn Grove Bingo. Join our FaceBook group here:

Mtn Grove VFW Presents the "Teacher of the Year Award"

Teacher of the Year Award for 2009

(Left to right) Mtn Grove VFW Commander Lyman "Pete" Proctor, Teacher of the Year Bob VanDiver, Mtn Grove VFW Quartermaster Iris Joe Kelley and Mtn Grove High School Assistant Principal Duane Hiler. The award was presented during the third lunch hour in front of the students and teachers that attend third lunch. It seemed the award came as a surprise to Mr VanDiver. Teacher VanDiver has taught US History and US and Missouri Constitution to many students over the years and fully deserves the award for doing so.
