Mtn Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3770 and Ladies Auxiliary held a brief  "Color Ceremony" in observance of "V-J Day" on September 2, 2008. "V-J Day" is significant because it marked the end of WWII.  The event was attended by these five participants and the photo taker. From left to right are Leonard Kennon, WWII veteran and current Jr-Vice Commander; Allen Dodds Jr., Vietnam veteran and current Post Commander; Leah Swanger, worked as government secrtary during WWII and is currently the  Ladies Auxiliary Treasurer; Scott Overholser, Desert Storm veteran and current post Judge Advocate; and Edward Hawley, Vietnam veteran and current Dist 18 VSIO.  The day started out sunny and bright but was drizzling rain before dark.

Mtn Grove VFW Charity Bingo 8-28-08

by IJK

This "Lucky Lady" won $500 playing "Blackout" at Mtn Grove VFW Post 3770'sa Thursday night Bingo.  She is one of our most regular, long time players and we appreciate her support very much.  We have some wonderful people that come and play Bingo with us each week and help us raise money to use in the community and to aid veterans and our current service members. Shown handing her the money is long time Bingo volunteer Ed Hawley.  Post 3770 is also blessed with having a strong volunteer force that comes out each week to host the game.  Remember that the help are all volunteers and no one is paid in any way for the time they spend assisting the post with Bingo.
Next week Mtn Grove VFW Bingo will be giving away it's "Progressive Diamond Jackpot".  The "Progressive Diamond" games grows by one number to be called and $50 dollars each week until someone wins or it reaches a predetermined limit. Now it has reached the limit and the Jackpot will be awarded next week, (Sept 4th. 2008) You are invited to come join us and have some fun while helping the veterans of VFW Post 3770 raise funds for veteran programs and the community.

Mtn Grove VFW Hosts CBCO Blood Drive

Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 08:57 AM

by IJK

Mtn Grove VFW Post 3770 has for the last several years hosted two blood drives annually for the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks.  They are at the post each year in April and in August.  Yesterday was the August 2008 event.
Below are some photos taken and a continuing story:
The CBCO Equipment truck always arrives and gets unloaded before the nurses arrive.  Comrades Jim "Grumpy" Smith and Iris Joe Kelley were present to assist with the unloading.  Comrade Scott Overholser had been there to help fold the tables and stack the chairs but was called away on family business.

Equipment all unloaded and waiting for the nurses to arrive.
The nurses are just about through getting ready for the donors.  One can see the 'Goodies' on the table for the donors to eat while they drink something and wait a time before leaving.

A few of the early donors enjoying their cookies and refreshing drink.  When a person gives blood it is advised to drink lots of liquids for the next few days and to site for awhile before driving to ensure that there will be problems arise.

There were six members of the Post 3770 Ladies Auxiliary who volunteered to work the canteen who donated a total of 14 hours. They were Glinda Kelley, Alice Kingsland, Arlene Roark, Regina Overholser, Diane Gooch, and Lavitta Proctor.  Four Ladies Auxiliary members made homemade cookies and/or brownies to donate.  They were Bonnie Harris, Nancy Smith, Arlene Roark and Lavitta Proctor.  Ladies Auxiliary members who donated blood were Helen Schmidt and LuAnn Kochis.
