Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff in honor of fallen soldier from Clinton County

Jefferson City, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags on all state buildings in Clinton County be flown at half-staff from Nov. 4 to Nov. 10 to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Sgt. Issac B. Jackson, age 27, of Lathrop. Sgt. Jackson was a soldier in the United States Army who died on Oct. 27 while serving his country in Arghandab Valley, Afghanistan.

In addition, Gov. Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in all 114 counties and the city of St. Louis be flown at half-staff for one full day on Wednesday, Nov. 4, the day of his funeral in Lathrop.

Sgt. Jackson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, stationed out of Fort Lewis, Wash. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Achievement Medal 2, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star 2, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon 2, the NATO Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 - God bless 1st BN, 17th Infantry has been fighting fiercely in Afghanistan, and SGT Jackson was one of their best.
